Japan to send a humanoid robot to the moon by 2015

Japan’s pathological love for humanoid robots goes back to the days of Tezuka, but as the country “grays” and the young find themselves vastly outnumbered by the old, robots have shifted from fantastic mechanical golems to Japan’s best hope for supplementing its rapidly dwindling workforce. That hope extends as far as outer space. they want to put a humanoid robot on the moon by 2015. That’s only four years from now. Despite the fact that Japan is poor on natural resources (particularly minerals), Maido-Kun will just be jetting up to the moon for a photo shoot: he’s been tasked to simply place a Japanese flag in the moon’s silver lunar dust.
