Here is some interesting research on smartphone applications

A TNS Media company, has recently published the results for its quarterly smartphone survey, providing a deeper insight into the way consumers are using their iPhones and Smartphones. Based on the results of the survey it seems that smartphone and iPhone owners tend to be on the same side when it comes to their favorite types of applications. Games, music, social networking, entertainment and weather are clearly the most popular applications across platforms

Compete's Smartphone Intelligence Survey also provides some interesting results on the differences between iPhone, Blackberry and Palm users, such as the fact that 73 percent of Blackberry owners have downloaded or purchased 5 or less apps, while 72 percent of iPhone owners have gone for 10 or more. At the same time, the survey shows that applications priced under $5 appeal to 83 percent of all smartphone owners, while iPhone users tend to purchase those they like.
